Andrew Leonard, Eric Knepper, and Robbie M. earned D3 Man of the Match, D4, Man of the Match and Hardest Worker, respectively. While Robbie sports a cut over his left eye, he wasn't the only player bloodied on Saturday. Dido Subayi tried to tackle an opposing player with his mouth and left the pitch with grisly wound to his lip, but rallied for a post-hospital pint at O'Sullivan's in true rugger fashion.

Western Suburbs is happy to welcome the following ruggers to our club! This is Pete Kunkel. Pete is new to rugby, but he's got good instincts for it. Pete's son is a rugger and we heard his wife is a funny talker so he's been hearing about rugby from multiple sources, We're glad he picked up with us. This is R.J. Hari. R.J. is a social member joining Suburbs for practices and socials when he is sent to DC for work. He currently plays for Olde Grey RFC in Columbia, South Carolina. He is in his second year of rugby and plays in the backs.
Get a taste of rugby. Just head on over to our sponsor, O'Sullivan's, and you may watch the World Cup. Here is their schedule.
Finally, we've got a double header this Saturday kicking off at 11 at South Lakes Drive Park so come on out and support your local rugby club. Western Suburbs is proud to announce our Hardest Worker and our Man of the Match from Saturday's win over West Potomac. It was a hot day for rugby, but Bryant Cruzado earned Hardest Worker for playing strong the whole match. Drew Cartwright earned Man of the Match for his leadership on the field and solid rugby. Great job!
Whenever you see a new rugger at practice, anything can happen. You could be welcoming an awesome player, a lifelong friend, a future captain, your favorite prop. etc. While we don't know what this week's catch will be, please join us in welcoming them to our club. Les Grant comes to us by way of Christopher Newport University RFC. He's quick, friendly, patient and will make an excellent addition to our backs. Mike Devivo is this rugger's name. He comes from Appalachia State RFC. With the hungry eyes, we're looking forward to watching him break tackles just like he did with his college club. This is Ian Danielson and if I recall correctly, he's played with several rugby clubs. Looks to be a solid forward so be sure to cheer him on this season on the pitch. There was some talk that he looks a bit like Ashley King so now we'll have Simba and Lance and Ashley and Ian to really through off the referees.
Welcome to Western Suburbs, we're happy to have you. "Big Head" Todd Broadhurst earned Man of the Match honors for last Saturday's rainy test against Chambersburg.
Western Suburbs would like to recognize the Man of the Match and Hardest Worker from Saturday's game against Frederick. Stephen "Simba" Cleary earned Man of the Match for decisive leadership and great rugby. Alex "Night Night" Menjivar earned Hardest Worker for running and hitting hard the whole game through.
Also, nice photo bomb Zander. We remember. Here is the story of one of our Western Suburbs ruggers back on that day:
http://www.rugbyfootball.com/2001.html It's been another great week for Western Suburbs with two solid practices and four new faces on the pitch. Please help us in welcoming the following ruggers to our club! This forward is Ashley King. Ashley hails from the largest club in South Northhamptonshire, Towcestrians RFC. He fell right into the groove in practice and we're sure he will do the same on the pitch and at the pub. This is Doug Sickler. Doug used to play with Suburbs and played in the first Boo Daddy tournament. He has missed the club and the pitch so we're happy to have him back out. This is Wyatt Witter. Wyatt hails from a rugby family as his father is a coach for the newly-founded U23 Griffins Rugby. He is currently playing with George Mason RFC as scrumhalf or flyhalf, but should be picking up some practices with us. Like Wyatt, Mike O'Connell is playing at George Mason and picking up some practices and some socials with Western Suburbs. At Mason, he plays Lock.
I don't about you, but it's great to see our club grow every week. Every rugger brings a lot of potential on the pitch and off of it. We're proud to welcome these ruggers to Western Suburbs. |
