When wandering through Fair Oaks last night, I saw the brand new Great American Cookie Company store which is something I haven't seen since I lived in Texas. Chris and Natalia hollered at me while walking by so we stopped in and they seemed eager to sell us some cookies. Having never seen it done and since I'm helping our club captain move back to Texas tomorrow, I ordered cookie cake above. They did a great job on it, don't you think? This was the first cookie cake that they've sold so I'm sure that is a good omen for our upcoming season.
It turns out that Chris is a member of the DC Gaels GAA and a hurler interested in rugby. One thing Western Suburbs and the DC Gaels have in common is that we are sponsored by O'Sullivan's Irish Pub.
Steven Buckman, a Suburbs Old Boy, who has suffered several (non-rugby) concussions has asked players of the club to participate in Boston University's LEGEND study. The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of repetitive brain trauma over the years. It shouldn't take a bunch of time and could really help advance brain trauma research.
If you are interested in learning more about the study, go here. If you'd like to sign up, contact John Hayden at 617-414-8389 or [email protected]
On another note, Steven is fluent in Navajo, Hopi, and Oraibi and would like to share his knowledge. If you're a rugger with a talent for tongues, contact the club and we'll put you in touch with him.
Stuart Zimmerman, Assistant Commissioner for Vienna Youth Rugby, has invited our club members to participate in a Level 200 USA Rugby Tackle Certification course that is being run on June 21. If you're thinking about getting into coaching, this would be help doing that. Questions about the event can be directed to [email protected].
