WARTS Tour to Golden Oldies in Scotland

Hey Golden Oldies Ruggers,

Who is interested attending the Golden Oldies in Edinburgh, Scotland? If you’ve traveled with the WARTS on these tours, you know you’ll have a blast! The dates are Aug 31 – Sept 9, 2008. We’d leave on Sunday the 31st, arrive in Edinburgh on the 1st to attend the opening ceremonies and party on Monday, great fun for all. The week has games planned on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, with a Grand Finale Dinner on Sunday night. Attached is the GO flyer about the tour. Highlights from previous tours include the WARTS winning the Best Dressed award, Bungie jumping in New Zealand, Beery’s tour program, golf tournament in Toulouse, and the Potato Festival in Ireland. Who knows what mischief and fun we can find for ourselves on this one???? I’m sure you don’t have enough rugby jerseys, and need at least one more with flames on the jersey. You must be at least 35 years of age by Sept 1st, 2008 to play.

And of course you want to know what the cost is… a mere 18 months ahead of time, like I know what the airfares and exchange rates will be. Looking at my crystal balls I predict we’ll be somewhere around the following costs per person:

Air fare  -                                                    $1000

Tournament entry fee                                          75

Tournament fee (including hotel, parties,

games, breakfast& buses to events)    1800   (dollar isn’t doing well against the pound)

Tour jersey (each)                                     65

Team stuff (plaques, hat, pants, march banner,

  exchange fees, stuffed sheep)                  70

A payment schedule will be worked out, but all has to be paid by April 2008. A mere $100 per person holds your spot on the tour.

That’s the basic cost, even Roger has to pay that much. Being the trading maniacs of US OBs on tour, you’ll want additional jerseys, Tshirts, pins, health insurance, team lawyer, llamas, etc for trading with other equally desperate ruggers from other countries. Plus the cost for any additional meals you might want (haggus!!), drinks throughout day and night, rental car to go with the drinks, golf course fees, and other essentials.

I’m planning for an organization meeting after the SOBs/West Pot vs Poltroons match on April 29th.  If you are interested and can’t be there (or just too lazy to be there, email or call me and let me know you are interested. As soon as I have 15 players signed up, I’ll send the entry in.

Let me hear from you soon
